Hi, I'm Dr. Sarah Mitchell
I'm a registered psychologist based in Melbourne with over a decade of experience helping individuals find their way through some of life's most challenging moments.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine human connection — not a clinical transaction. My work is grounded in evidence-based practice, but guided by warmth, curiosity, and deep respect for each person's unique story.
My Story
I came to psychology because I grew up watching people I loved struggle in silence. Back then, therapy was something many people avoided — it felt foreign, even shameful. I wanted to be part of changing that.
After completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Melbourne, I pursued my PhD focusing on trauma-informed care and the neuroscience of emotional regulation. I've spent the last ten years in private practice and clinical settings, working with individuals across the full spectrum of mental health experiences.
My clients have included high-achieving professionals who feel hollow despite their success, parents quietly drowning in overwhelm, young adults navigating identity and belonging, and people carrying wounds from their past that nobody ever helped them heal.
What I've learned is that everyone — without exception — is doing the best they can with what they have. My job is to help you find more tools, more clarity, and more compassion for yourself.
Qualifications & Training
Evidence-based practice underpins everything I do.
My Therapeutic Approach
I'm an integrative therapist, which means I draw from multiple evidence-based modalities to tailor my approach to your individual needs — rather than applying one technique to everyone.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Identify and reframe the thought patterns keeping you stuck.
EMDR
Process traumatic memories through guided bilateral stimulation.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Build psychological flexibility and live in alignment with your values.
Schema Therapy
Explore and heal deep-rooted patterns formed in early life.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Cultivate present-moment awareness to reduce rumination and reactivity.
Compassion-Focused Therapy
Develop kindness toward yourself as the foundation of healing.
"You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. You just have to be human."
Outside of work, you'll find me hiking the Dandenong Ranges, cooking badly, and reading way too many books about the brain. I believe a therapist who lives a full, imperfect life is better equipped to meet their clients in theirs.
